How to install Kernel 4.3 on Ubuntu, Linux Lite, KUbuntu, XUbuntu?


Kernel 4.3 has many advanced feature when compared to its previous version. In this the EXT3 driver is removed instead that EXT4 is installed. And it has DRM improvements and F2FS.

Though compiling the Linux Kernel is quite difficult and takes extra time than other, but Ubuntu and its derivatives like Linux Lite, KUbuntu, XUbuntu make it simple. In this post i will show how to install Kernel 4.3 on your Ubuntu system.

 

Before downloading the Kernel 4.3 we have to download the patch for the current system (The system which you use now) architecture.

 

Install Kernel 4.3 on 32 bit System:

Type the following command to download the needed packages:

$ cd /tmp

$ wget\

kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.3-wily/linux-headers-4.3.0-040300_4.3.0-040300.201511020949_all.deb\

kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.3-wily/linux-headers-4.3.0-040300-generic_4.3.0-040300.201511020949_i386.deb\

kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.3-wily/linux-image-4.3.0-040300-generic_4.3.0-040300.201511020949_i386.deb

 

To install the Kernel (32 bit system):

Type the following command to install the kernel 4.3.

$ sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-4.3*.deb linux-image-4.3*.deb

 

To remove the Kernel (32 bit system):

It is optional one. If you wish to remove the existing kernel type the following code.

$ sudo apt-get remove linux-headers-4.3* linux-image-4.3*

 

Install Kernel 4.3 on 64 bit System:     

Type the following command to download the needed packages:

$ cd /tmp

$ wget \

kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.3-wily/linux-headers-4.3.0-040300_4.3.0-040300.201511020949_all.deb \

kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.3-wily/linux-headers-4.3.0-040300-generic_4.3.0-040300.201511020949_amd64.deb \

kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.3-wily/linux-image-4.3.0-040300-generic_4.3.0-040300.201511020949_amd64.deb

 

To install the Kernel (64 bit system):

Type the following command to install the kernel 4.3

$ sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-4.3*.deb linux-image-4.3*.deb

 

To remove the Kernel (64 bit system):

By using the following command you can remove the kernel.

$ sudo apt-get remove linux-headers-4.3* linux-image-4.3*

 And now your system with kernel 4.3 is ready. Enjoy with the new features.
