Install Java8 (JDK 8u66) on Ubuntu and LinuxMint via PPA


 

Installing Java8 (JDK 8u66) on Ubuntu and LinuxMint is now possible.Because Java 8 is available to download and you can download java 8 on your Ubuntu, LinuxMint.

It is maintained by Webupd8 team.

You need to add the repository of Webupd8 to install Java 8.

Following commands can help you to install Java 8 on your system.

ADDING Webupd8 REPOSITORY:

Intially add the Webupd8 repository by typing the following command in the terminal.

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java

$ sudo apt-get update

$ sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer

after typing this command your Java 8 will be installed in your system.

 

 

VERIFICATION OF INSTALLATION:

After completing the installation, type the following code to verify the installation process.

kachi@ubuntumag:~$ java -version

java version "1.8.0_66"

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_66-b17)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.66-b17, mixed mode)

this command will help you to verify the installation.

 

 

CONFIGURATION OF JAVA ENVIRONMENT:

After the installation and verification process then type the following code for configuration.

$ sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-set-default

 

The above code can be used in Ubuntu 15.10, 14.04 LTS, 12.04 LTS and 10.04 using PPA.
