Install Wine 1.7.54 on CentOS,RHEL 7/6 and Fedora (Development Release)

We use linux for security purpose. If linux provide the choice of windows level application then it will be very useful for us. Satisfying our requirement there is a package called Wine which will help us to use application which is used on windows. Today in this post i will tell the steps that are required to install Wine 1.7.54 on Centos/RHEL 7/6 and Fedora.

I have written the steps to install Wine 1.7.54 Development Release which is not a stable release.

Install Wine 1.7.54

We can install Wine packages either using yum or apt command.

Development Packages Installation:

To install Wine you need to install several developmental packages.

Install them using the following command.

# yum groupinstall 'Development Tools'

# yum install libX11-devel freetype-devel zlib-devel libxcb-devel

 

Wine 1.7.54 Installation:
We have to download the Source code of the Wine. Since there is no RPM Package available.

Download Wine 1.7.54 Source code

Type the following command.

# cd /usr/src

# wget  http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wine/wine-1.7.54.tar.bz2

# tar xjf wine-1.7.54.tar.bz2

# cd wine-1.7.54

Configuration:

After successful installation configure the system by the help of following code.

For 32-Bit Systems:

# ./configure

For 64-Bit Systems:

# ./configure  --enable-win64

 

Compilation of Source code:

Compile the source code by the following code.

# make

# make install

 

Checking Wine Version:

Check the Wine version by the following code.

For 32-Bit Systems:

# wine --version

 

For 64-Bit Systems:

# wine64 --version

Finally, i request you to use this version only for testing purpose as it is a development version and not a stable version.
